Major Wins for The Weeknd, Drake, and More at the 2021 Ceremony
The Weeknd took center stage at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night, May 24, winning an impressive ten awards, including the prestigious Top Male Artist title. The Canadian artist, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, graced the ceremony in California, hosted by Nick Jonas.
The event was broadcast live from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, revealing the winners for 2021. Country star Morgan Wallen garnered three awards, including Top Country Male Artist and Top Country Album, despite facing backlash over a leaked video in which he used a racial slur. Wallen was banned from attending the ceremony due to this controversy.
Posthumously, late rapper Pop Smoke, who passed away in 2020, received four awards, among them Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist, and Top Rap Album. K-pop sensation BTS also excelled, winning multiple honors, including Top Social Artist and Top Duo/Group.
Taylor Swift, following her notable Global Icon award at the BRITs, claimed the coveted Top Female Artist award. Meanwhile, Drake continued his record-breaking streak, accepting the Artist of the Decade award. He currently holds the title for the most Billboard awards overall.
