JBS Cyber Attack Suspected to Originate from Russia, Company Informs White House

White House Engages with Russian Government Following Ransom Demand

The meat processing giant JBS reported to the White House that the recent cyber attack targeting its operations is likely linked to a group based in Russia. According to White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, JBS informed the Biden administration of a ransom demand from a criminal organization with suspected Russian ties, prompting U.S. government response.

Jean-Pierre stated that the White House has offered support to JBS and is actively communicating with the Russian government to convey that “responsible states do not harbour ransomware criminals.” Her remarks came during a press event aboard Air Force One.
