Val Kilmer’s Return in Top Gun: Maverick Thanks to Tom Cruise’s Advocacy

Tom Cruise Pushes for Iconic Character’s Inclusion in Sequel

Fans of Top Gun are in for a treat as Val Kilmer’s character is set to return in the long-awaited sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. This comes after Kilmer himself teased a potential AI recreation of his voice with British firm Sonantic. The news was made possible by the insistence of none other than Tom Cruise, who played a crucial role in bringing Kilmer back.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed in a recent interview that while the entire team wanted Kilmer to reprise his role, it was Cruise who was especially adamant about including the beloved actor. “We all wanted him (Kilmer), but Tom was really adamant that if he’s going to make another Top Gun, Val had to be in it,” Bruckheimer shared with People magazine. This decision has fans excited to see the iconic duo back on screen, nearly 40 years after the original film’s release.
