Lewis Hamilton Takes Fastest Qualifying Time, Will Start 11th Due to Grid Penalty

Valtteri Bottas claims pole position for the Turkish Grand Prix, while Max Verstappen sets up for a strong start in second.

Lewis Hamilton’s qualifying performance for the Turkish Grand Prix showcased his speed, as the Formula One world championship leader set the fastest time on Saturday. However, due to a 10-place grid penalty, Hamilton will start the race in 11th position. Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas claimed pole position, with Hamilton’s title rival Max Verstappen qualifying in third, set to join Bottas on the front row at Istanbul Park.

Hamilton remains determined to fight for victory despite his starting position. Speaking ahead of the race, the seven-time world champion stated, “My eyes are still solely set on winning the race. It’s going to be hard from P11, but I’m staying on my toes and going maximum attack from the start.” He emphasized that staying out of trouble and gradually moving up the grid will be key to his strategy.

On the other hand, Bottas, starting from pole, is confident in his ability to hold off Verstappen, saying, “As long as I don’t make a mistake, I should be able to keep [Verstappen] behind.” With conditions constantly changing, Bottas feels confident in the car’s performance and his ability to maintain the lead.

As the race approaches, all eyes will be on Hamilton’s pursuit from further down the grid and the battle between Bottas and Verstappen at the front.
