Rust Assistant Director Admits Failing to Check All Rounds in Firearm Handed to Alec Baldwin

Davis Halls Acknowledges Oversight in Gun Safety Procedures Following Fatal Incident

In a recent affidavit, the assistant director on the film Rust, Davis Halls, admitted to police that he did not check all the rounds in the gun before handing it to actor Alec Baldwin, leading to the tragic shooting. Halls stated that when the film’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, showed him the firearm before continuing the rehearsal, he only remembered seeing three rounds. He later acknowledged that he should have checked all the rounds but did not.

The affidavit, filed in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court as part of a search warrant for the film set, reveals that Halls could not recall whether Gutierrez-Reed had spun the drum of the revolver. When questioned by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office about safety procedures, Halls explained that he typically checks for obstructions in the barrel but noted that live fire is rarely involved during rehearsals.
