No new countries will be placed on the red list, while vaccination recognition expands to facilitate travel.
The UK government has confirmed that the travel red list will remain empty, with no additional countries added following the latest review by the Department for Transport (DfT) on 18 November. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps made the announcement via Twitter, stating, “TRAVEL UPDATE: there will be no countries or territories added to the red list. We will continue to keep all measures under review.”
A notable change, however, is the recognition of vaccines from 15 more countries, which will allow a broader group of potential inbound travellers. These include countries such as Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Senegal, and Zimbabwe. Shapps highlighted that this expansion would be a positive development for both business and leisure travel.
The updated travel measures will come into effect at 4 a.m. on Monday, 22 November.
Meanwhile, several European countries, including popular winter destinations Austria and the Czech Republic, have begun reintroducing local Covid restrictions in response to rising case numbers, marking the highest levels since the pandemic’s onset.
