David Hockney Unveils New Self-Portrait at Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum

The 84-Year-Old Artist’s Latest Work, Created in Normandy, Makes Its Public Debut

A new self-portrait by renowned artist David Hockney has been installed at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, where it is being displayed for the first time to the public. Titled Self Portrait, 22nd November 2021, the painting was created by Hockney in Normandy, France, where the 84-year-old artist has made his home in recent years.

Living in the serene countryside, Hockney has previously spoken about how the peaceful surroundings allow him to focus on his work without the distractions of urban life. The artist has described his time in northern France, where he resides in a “higgledy-piggledy” house, as “fantastic” for the creative process.

This new addition to the Fitzwilliam Museum’s collection is expected to further cement Hockney’s legacy as one of the most significant contemporary artists of our time.
