Dmitry Bivol Shocks Canelo Álvarez with Unanimous Decision Victory

Bivol Retains WBA Light-Heavyweight Title and Stays Unbeaten After 12-Round Battle

Dmitry Bivol defeated Canelo Álvarez in a unanimous points decision on Saturday night, successfully defending his WBA light-heavyweight title and maintaining his unbeaten record. Álvarez, stepping up to the heaviest weight of his career, was unable to match the precision and power of the Russian, who controlled most of the fight with clean, hard shots.

After a competitive start, Bivol, 31, used his superior height and reach to keep Álvarez at a distance, landing jabs throughout the bout. The judges scored the fight 115-113 in favor of Bivol, who remains undefeated with a record of 20-0, including 11 KOs.

Álvarez, who had not lost since his defeat to Floyd Mayweather in 2013, immediately expressed his desire for a rematch following the setback.
