Elina Svitolina Calls for Russian and Belarusian Players to Speak Out Against War

Ukrainian Tennis Star Demands Clarity from Players on Their Stance Regarding the Conflict

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has called on Russian and Belarusian athletes to publicly express their stance on the ongoing war in Ukraine. Svitolina, in an interview with The Associated Press, emphasized the importance of players taking a clear position, as Ukrainians are left uncertain about where they stand if no statements are made.

“For us, it’s crucial to know whether they support the actions of their government and military,” she said, adding that sport in Russia and Belarus is heavily used for propaganda purposes. Svitolina also discussed the mental toll of the war, revealing how it has deeply affected her and her ability to focus amidst the emotional strain.
