The Dangers of Social Media Addiction and Its Impact on Mental Health

Social media has become a modern-day addiction, captivating users much like intoxicating drugs. With its alluring visuals, gratifying sounds, and constant stream of engaging content, platforms are designed to hook users, making them just as addictive as substances we warn against.

As an ex-headteacher, I’ve witnessed firsthand the damaging effects of social media addiction in the classroom. Students’ attention spans are shrinking, while rates of depression and anxiety are on the rise. It’s crucial that we recognize these platforms for what they truly are: addiction machines. It’s time we address this growing crisis by treating social media with the same seriousness as other addictions.
