The charity football match, featuring celebrities from various fields, celebrates its 2022 edition this weekend at West Ham’s stadium.
Soccer Aid returns for its 2022 edition this weekend, with the annual charity football match being held at West Ham’s London Stadium for the first time. Created by singer Robbie Williams in 2006, the event raises money for Unicef and sees a team of England’s celebrities face off against a World XI made up of former footballers, athletes, and stars from across entertainment.
Regular players include football legends like David Seaman and Jamie Redknapp, as well as pop icons Olly Murs and TV host Ben Shephard. Clarence Seedorf, former midfielder for the Netherlands, holds the record as Soccer Aid’s top scorer with four goals.
The competition is currently tied, with both teams having won five times over the course of 10 matches, which have taken place at famous stadiums such as Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge, and Wembley. This year, in addition to the match, Robbie Williams will perform in a concert to cap off the evening’s festivities.
