An 11-year-old boy and two adults were swept away by fast-moving water following Monday’s heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Severe thunderstorms that battered the Midwest and parts of the South have left three people missing in Milwaukee, including an 11-year-old boy and two adults. Authorities reported that the boy fell into a drainage ditch around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, which leads to a tunnel flowing into the Kinnickinnic River. Two men, aged 34 and 37, attempted to rescue the boy but were also swept away.
Assistant Fire Chief DeWayne Smoots emphasized the uncertainty of conditions inside the tunnel, which prevented rescue crews from entering. Instead, a drone was deployed to search for the missing individuals. The names of the victims have not been disclosed, but police confirmed they were all acquainted.
The dangerous water flow followed intense rainfall from Monday’s storms, which caused widespread damage and power outages across Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. The storms continued to cause disruptions as they moved into West Virginia early Tuesday, bringing down trees and power lines, and closing several roads.
