Invictus Games Gold Medallist Overcomes Life-Changing Injury to Marry in Help for Heroes-Themed Ceremony

Kieran Wood, who suffered a brain injury in a 2007 crash after returning from Iraq, celebrates his wedding with a heartfelt tribute to military charity.

Kieran Wood, a gold medallist at the Invictus Games, has tied the knot in a wedding ceremony that honored the military charity Help for Heroes. The 34-year-old from Preston, Lancashire, suffered a life-changing brain injury in 2007 when a car crash just hours after returning from a tour in Iraq left him with severe injuries. At the time, the then-18-year-old private with the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment was a passenger in a vehicle that skidded and collided with another, tragically killing a friend.

Thrown through the rear window of the car and into a ditch, Kieran was left unable to walk or speak due to brain damage. Despite the overwhelming challenges, he has shown extraordinary resilience, finding solace and strength through his involvement in the Invictus Games and his connection to the charity that supported his recovery, Help for Heroes.

Kieran’s wedding, held in the presence of loved ones and supporters, was a poignant celebration of his journey, marked with a theme that paid tribute to the charity that has been instrumental in his rehabilitation.
