Commonwealth Games 2022 Opens in Birmingham with Star-Studded Ceremony

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight leads the creative charge for a 3.5-hour event featuring Duran Duran and Tony Iommi

The 2022 Commonwealth Games officially kicks off today in Birmingham with a grand opening ceremony at 7 pm. The highly anticipated event will run for three and a half hours and promises to be a spectacle filled with artistic flair. The ceremony has been masterminded by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who serves as executive producer, with theatre director Iqbal Khan as the artistic director. Writer Maeve Clarke and music consultant Joshua “RTKal” Holness have also played key roles in crafting the event. Performances by Brummie new wave band Duran Duran and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, alongside Soweto Kinch, will add to the star-studded affair.
