Democrats Demand Transparency on Deleted Secret Service Texts from Jan. 6 Attack

Congressional Leaders Threaten Subpoena Over Alleged Stonewalling of Investigation

Leading congressional Democrats are escalating their demands for information from the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General, Joseph Cuffari, regarding deleted Secret Service text messages tied to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. In a letter issued Tuesday, the heads of the House Oversight and Homeland Security committees accused Cuffari of using delay tactics to hinder the investigation. The lawmakers are pressing for access to records and testimony about potential efforts to conceal the erasure of these crucial communications, and they are also calling for Cuffari’s recusal from the department’s internal probe into the incident.
