Biden and DeSantis Collaborate in Aftermath of Hurricane Ian

Despite Political Tensions, Florida Governor and President Meet to Address Devastation

President Joe Biden visited Fort Myers, Florida, on Wednesday to assess the damage left by Hurricane Ian, touring the devastated areas alongside Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a potential 2024 election rival. The two men, who have had political differences in the past, were greeted by DeSantis and his wife, Casey, at Fisherman’s Wharf. They spoke with several local residents before participating in a briefing with Deanne Criswell, the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). During the briefing, DeSantis publicly thanked President Biden and his administration for the swift federal support provided in the wake of the disaster, acknowledging the assistance authorized before the storm made landfall on Florida’s west coast.
