Maisie Summers-Newton Honored with MBE for Services to Swimming at Buckingham Palace
Paralympic swimming champion Maisie Summers-Newton, who won gold at the Tokyo 2020 games, has shared how her long-time idol Ellie Simmonds’ appearance on Strictly Come Dancing serves as an inspiration for everyone. Summers-Newton, who praised Simmonds for “dancing her socks off,” emphasized that the experience proves “anyone can do anything, no matter what disability you have.”
Summers-Newton, 20, was awarded an MBE for her contributions to swimming, recognizing her achievements in the sport, including her success at the Tokyo Games. She was joined by other notable figures, including autism researcher Sir Simon Baron-Cohen and London 2012 closing ceremony set designer Esmeralda Devlin, at Buckingham Palace, where they were honored by the Princess Royal.
