Australia to Observe National Holiday in Mourning of Queen Elizabeth II

Prime Minister confirms bank holiday following the monarch’s death.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that the country will observe a bank holiday to honor the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen, who passed away at the age of 96 on Thursday, 8 September, after a historic 70-year reign, will be remembered across the nation.

The Queen will be laid to rest on Monday, 19 September, at Westminster Abbey in London. Her coffin was flown from Edinburgh to London on Tuesday, 13 September. On Wednesday, 14 September, a ceremonial procession will take place, transporting her coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall to commence her lying in state.
