Bryan Kohberger Awaits Trial for Gruesome Murder of Four University of Idaho Students

Trial Postponed as Court Considers Scheduling Summer 2024 Start for High-Profile Case

The small town of Moscow, Idaho, was shaken by the brutal murders of four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—who were attacked and fatally stabbed in their off-campus residence. Police were alerted to the tragic scene nearly eight hours after the attack, during which a military-style knife was reportedly used, although the weapon has yet to be recovered.

After weeks of limited information, the December 2022 arrest of Bryan Kohberger, a Washington State University student, brought new developments. Authorities searched his apartment, office, and family home for evidence. A grand jury later indicted him on four counts of first-degree murder and one burglary charge, elevating the case to felony court and bypassing a preliminary hearing.

Initially set for October 2023, the trial has been delayed indefinitely as Kohberger waived his right to a speedy trial. Prosecutors requested a summer 2024 start, and a hearing scheduled for February 28, 2024, may determine a firm trial date.
