The Langya Henipavirus, which has infected 35 people, raises concerns despite no reported fatalities yet
China has identified a new virus, the Langya Henipavirus, or “Langya,” believed to have been transmitted to humans by shrews. According to Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control, 35 people have been infected, but there have been no reported fatalities or serious illnesses. The virus has been found in China’s Shandong and Henan provinces, although human-to-human transmission has not been reported. While the discovery is concerning, it remains unclear how widespread the virus could become.
