Study Finds Climate Change Makes Record-Breaking Heatwaves Much More Likely
A study by the Met Office has revealed that climate change has dramatically increased the likelihood of extreme heatwaves in northwest India and Pakistan, making them 100 times more likely. The research focused on the chances of exceeding the record-breaking temperatures that were recorded in India during April and May 2010.
According to the findings, without the influence of climate change, such temperatures would have been expected once in 312 years. However, with current climate patterns, these temperatures are now likely to occur once every three years. This stark shift underscores the growing severity and frequency of heatwaves in the region, highlighting the urgent need for climate action.
