Bitcoin’s resurgence pushes the cryptocurrency market cap above $2.3 trillion, surpassing Apple’s market value.
The global cryptocurrency market has surpassed the value of the world’s most valuable company, Apple, after a surge in bitcoin and several leading altcoins on Thursday. The crypto market cap now stands at $2.37 trillion (£1.73tn), surpassing Apple’s $2.33tn. Bitcoin has led the charge, rising by over a third since October began, reaching new five-month highs above $58,000 and nearing its all-time record of $64,000. Other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, Binance Coin, Cardano, and Ripple have also seen significant gains in the last 24 hours. Crypto analysts, including the pseudonymous PlanB, are predicting that bitcoin could achieve new record highs before the end of 2021, though they caution that unexpected events, such as a major regulatory crackdown or geopolitical incident, could derail these predictions.
