Ex-Milwaukee Bucks Player Galen Young Killed in Tragic Car Crash at Memphis Home

19-Year-Old Driver Charged After Fatal Accident; Galen Young’s Legacy Remembered

Galen Young, a former Milwaukee Bucks draftee, tragically lost his life when a vehicle crashed into his Memphis home on 9 June. Authorities have charged 19-year-old Miracle Renee Rutherford, accusing her of reckless driving that posed a severe risk of death or injury. According to police, Rutherford lost control of her car around 2:45 a.m., causing the vehicle to become airborne and collide with Young’s residence.

Young, 45, was only discovered hours later when family members, clearing items from the crash site, located his body. Before his 13-year professional basketball career, which included stints in the Continental Basketball Association and overseas leagues in Japan and Australia, Young was a standout player. He played high school basketball in Memphis, began his college career at Northwest Mississippi Community College, and went on to UNC-Charlotte, where he helped lead the 49ers to two NCAA tournaments, earning All Conference-USA honors.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office has filed charges against Rutherford, but her attorney has yet to comment on the indictment.
