Fatal Fall on Ben Nevis: Climber Dies and Another Seriously Injured

A tragic accident on Scotland’s highest peak leaves one dead and another severely hurt after a fall in the Moonlight Gully area.

A tragic accident unfolded on Saturday on Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, as two climbers fell in the Moonlight Gully area of the Scottish Highlands. The emergency call came in around 5pm, and despite swift action, the 22-year-old climber tragically lost his life. His companion, a 30-year-old man, managed to move further down the mountain and was rescued by the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team (LMRT).

The injured climber was promptly airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. The LMRT team, however, faced significant challenges due to harsh weather conditions and hazardous terrain. The search resumed on Sunday morning to recover the body of the younger climber, who had not survived the fall.

In a statement on social media, LMRT expressed their condolences and noted the difficulty of the operation, highlighting the dangerous conditions that complicated the rescue efforts. Despite the tragic outcome, the team’s swift response ensured the surviving climber received urgent medical care.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks involved in climbing the UK’s highest peak, especially in challenging weather.
