Foden’s Late Strike Secures Man City’s Win as Controversial VAR Decision Denies Everton

Manchester City Regains Six-Point Lead in Title Race, Leaving Everton Near Drop Zone

A late goal from Phil Foden and a contentious VAR call helped Manchester City secure a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton, restoring City’s lead at the top of the Premier League table by six points. Despite Everton’s strong resistance at Goodison Park, City intensified their attack in the second half, with Jordan Pickford making several crucial saves from shots by Foden, John Stones, Kevin de Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva. Finally, in the 82nd minute, Bernardo Silva’s low cross deflected into the six-yard box, allowing Foden to score and break the deadlock.

Controversy struck shortly afterward when the ball appeared to hit Rodri’s arm in the City penalty area, leading Everton to hope for a penalty. However, after a lengthy VAR check, officials decided against the call, allowing City to hold their lead. The win comes after recent setbacks for City, including a draw with Southampton and a home loss to Tottenham, which re-energized Liverpool’s title hopes.

With Liverpool focused on the Carabao Cup final, Guardiola’s squad took advantage to secure their position at the top, though Everton now hovers dangerously in 17th place, just above the relegation zone.
