Kevin De Bruyne to Part Ways with Manchester City After a Decade of Glory

The Belgian maestro announces emotional farewell, capping off a legendary ten-year journey at the Etihad

Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed he will leave Manchester City at the conclusion of the current season, marking the end of an extraordinary ten-year era with the club.

Now 33, the Belgian midfielder revealed his decision in a heartfelt message on social media, stating that this summer would be his final chapter with the Premier League giants. De Bruyne joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015 and became a pivotal figure in one of the most dominant periods English football has seen.

Over a decade in Manchester, De Bruyne collected 16 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club’s historic first UEFA Champions League triumph in 2023. Across 413 appearances in all competitions, he tallied 106 goals and 174 assists—solidifying his place among the Premier League’s all-time greats.

However, recent seasons have seen the midfielder struggle with recurring injuries, limiting his time on the pitch. Despite this, his influence and legacy at the club remain unquestionable.

In his emotional farewell, De Bruyne wrote:

“You probably know what’s coming. These are my last few months as a Manchester City player. Writing this isn’t easy, but every footballer faces this moment. It’s here now—and I wanted you to hear it from me.”

Reflecting on his time at the club, he added:

“This city and this team gave me everything, and I gave it my all in return. We won it all together. Our children will always carry Manchester in their names and in their hearts. This will always be our home.”

The midfielder expressed gratitude to supporters, teammates, and staff for their unwavering support over the years and asked fans to savour the remaining moments with him.

De Bruyne’s initial stint in English football with Chelsea under José Mourinho was brief and underwhelming, leading to a move abroad. But his return with Manchester City saw him flourish into a world-class talent and leader on the pitch.

A four-time Manchester City Player of the Year and twice named Premier League Player of the Season, De Bruyne’s brilliance was recognised globally when he finished third in the 2022 Ballon d’Or voting.

Speculation is now mounting regarding his next destination. While no official move has been announced, reports suggest clubs in the Saudi Pro League and the United States’ MLS—particularly San Diego FC—are vying for his signature with lucrative offers.

Whatever the future holds, De Bruyne’s legacy at Manchester City is assured—a player who defined an era and inspired a generation.
