Asteroid 7482 (1994 PC1) Will Fly Within a Safe Distance, Staying Over a Million Miles Away from Earth
On Tuesday, a colossal asteroid named 7482 (1994 PC1) is set to pass Earth, measuring a staggering 1,052 meters (3,451 feet) in width — making it larger than the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building at 830 meters (2,723 feet). Although its size and trajectory bring it relatively close in astronomical terms, experts confirm it will pose no risk to Earth, passing at a distance more than five times that of the Moon.
Originally discovered on August 9, 1994, by astronomer Robert McNaught at Australia’s Siding Spring Observatory, the asteroid is part of a monitored group of near-Earth objects.
