Alliance Party Leader Calls for Stormont Reform and Accuses DUP of Using Deadlock to Leverage Protocol Scrapping
Naomi Long, leader of the Alliance Party, has sharply criticized the ongoing political deadlock in Northern Ireland, stating that the lack of a functioning powersharing Executive at Stormont is making life more difficult for the people. In her remarks, Long accused the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) of obstructing progress by leveraging the absence of an Executive to push for the scrapping of the Northern Ireland Protocol, an issue she argued “no one is losing sleep over.”
Ahead of the Assembly elections on Thursday, Long called for urgent reform of Stormont, arguing that the current system fails to represent the evolving identities of many people in Northern Ireland, particularly those who no longer define themselves strictly as unionists or nationalists.
