NASA’s Curiosity Rover Marks 10 Years of Exploration on Mars

Curiosity celebrates a decade of discoveries, including evidence of past water and organic compounds on the Red Planet

On Friday, NASA’s Curiosity rover will mark its tenth anniversary on Mars, continuing its groundbreaking mission since landing in Gale Crater on 5 August 2012. The car-sized rover’s goal was to search for signs of past habitability on Mars, and ten years later, its discoveries have proven invaluable. Curiosity confirmed the long-term presence of liquid water on Mars, a crucial element for potential life, and discovered organic compounds essential for life. Still operational, the rover is currently climbing through sedimentary rock in what was once an ancient lakebed, continuing its journey to unlock Mars’ mysteries.
