Join the live tracking of Santa’s sleigh as it delivers gifts globally on Christmas Eve
Santa Claus is once again making his magical journey around the world, delivering Christmas presents to billions of children in just 24 hours. As of now, Father Christmas is gliding through the Pacific Ocean, having already made hundreds of millions of stops across the globe.
For many years, NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) has delighted families worldwide by tracking Santa’s sleigh in real-time on Christmas Eve. This beloved tradition began in 1955 when a department store advertisement accidentally listed a phone number for children to call Santa. A young child, eager to speak to St. Nick, called the number, which turned out to be the Colorado military command centre. Air Force Colonel Harry Shoup, who answered the call, responded playfully, assuring the child that he was indeed speaking to Santa Claus. What started as a friendly interaction grew into a festive tradition, and when NORAD was officially formed in 1958, the practice of tracking Santa’s journey continued.
Since then, NORAD has temporarily swapped its usual role of monitoring airspace to provide real-time updates on Santa’s progress, answering children’s queries and allowing millions of people to follow his incredible worldwide journey. Every year, over 100,000 calls are received by NORAD from kids eager to know where Santa is, while millions more follow the adventure online in nine different languages.
Stay with us for continuous updates as we track Santa’s sleigh and celebrate this festive tradition of holiday magic.
