Pakistan’s Major Cities Erupt in Protests as Supporters of Imran Khan March Toward Islamabad

Clashes between protesters and police escalate with tear gas and barricades blocking routes to the capital.

Pakistan’s political landscape turned volatile as demonstrations erupted across major cities, with supporters of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan marching toward Islamabad. On Wednesday, police used tear gas and baton charges in Punjab, Pakistan’s largest province and a stronghold of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), where protesters attempted to dismantle barricades blocking their route to the capital. Several demonstrators reportedly collapsed amid the chaotic clashes.

In Islamabad, authorities used shipping containers to secure major roads leading into the city, while security forces maintained a robust presence to prevent protesters from reaching government and administrative buildings. The unrest follows Khan’s ouster and has further fueled political tensions across the nation.
