Officials Claim Ukraine Mobilizes Half of Its Military in Eastern Border Zone
Russia has accused Ukraine of mobilizing nearly half its army, approximately 125,000 troops, to counter pro-Russian separatists in the eastern Donbass region. In response, Moscow announced the initiation of routine winter exercises within its southern military district, which shares a border with Ukraine.
Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for Russia’s foreign ministry, stated that the Ukrainian army is enhancing its military presence by deploying both equipment and personnel. The Ukrainian military has refrained from commenting on her remarks.
Zakharova noted that, based on certain reports, the troop count in the conflict area has risen to 125,000, constituting roughly half of Ukraine’s entire military force. Ukrainian forces have been engaged in conflict with Russian-backed separatists in the region since 2014.
