Senator Rubio Warns Against No-Fly Zone Over Ukraine, Citing Risk of World War III

US Lawmakers Reject Ukrainian Plea, Citing Escalation Fears with Nuclear-Armed Russia

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida delivered a stark caution on Sunday, stating that implementing a no-fly zone over Ukraine could set off a global conflict. In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Rubio clarified that enforcing a no-fly zone means a commitment to down Russian aircraft, which he described as “the beginning of World War III.”

As Russia’s incursion into Ukraine intensifies, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made repeated requests for a no-fly zone to protect his nation from further air assaults. However, US lawmakers from both parties have dismissed the idea as excessively dangerous, warning it could lead to a direct confrontation between the United States and Russia—both nuclear-armed powers.
