Sydney McLaughlin Sets New World Record with 400m Hurdles Gold

Olympic champion shatters her own record, expressing belief in even faster times

USA’s Sydney McLaughlin stunned the crowd at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, breaking her own 400m hurdles world record for the fourth time in just over a year. The 22-year-old clocked an incredible 50.68 seconds, nearly a second faster than her previous record of 51.41 seconds, set last month at Hayward Field. Reflecting on her performance, McLaughlin expressed her excitement, stating, “The time is absolutely amazing and the sport is getting faster and faster. I only get faster from here.” She credited her focus on maintaining cadence and stride for making the record possible, adding that having her family in the stands made the victory even more special, calling it a “redemption” after Tokyo.
