Tory Group Urges Boris Johnson to Support Defence Pact with EU Amid Ukraine Crisis

Conservative European Forum Calls for UK to Join EU Defence Initiatives to Boost Military Mobility

The ongoing Ukraine crisis has prompted calls from a Tory group for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to reconsider his stance on a defence pact with the European Union. The Conservative European Forum (CEF) is urging the UK to join projects under the EU’s Permanent Structured Cooperation in Defence (PESCO), which aims to strengthen a unified European defence policy.

The group’s immediate recommendation is for Britain to participate in PESCO’s Military Mobility project, which would help remove bureaucratic hurdles and enable faster deployment of military forces and assets across Europe. This initiative, they argue, is crucial for the UK’s strategic interests and would enhance the country’s ability to respond quickly in times of crisis.
