Crowd Gathers Outside US Supreme Court to Honor Bruce, Who Died After Setting Himself on Fire on Earth Day
A vigil was held on Friday evening to honor Wynn Alan Bruce, who tragically died after setting himself on fire in front of the US Supreme Court on April 22, Earth Day. Bruce, 50, passed away the day after his self-immolation, an act he reportedly carried out as a protest against the climate crisis.
The vigil, organized by the group Declare Emergency, aimed to draw attention to the urgent need for President Joe Biden to declare a national emergency regarding the climate crisis. Attendees gathered in front of the Supreme Court, where they sang in memory of Bruce, marking one week since his death.
Dr. Kritee Kanko, a climate scientist and leader of the Boundless in Motion meditation community in Boulder, Colorado, shared her grief on social media, revealing that Bruce was a personal friend with whom she had meditated.
