Police apprehend Harshkumar H. Patel, who faces multiple charges following the random attack.
Harshkumar H. Patel, 29, was arrested and charged with attempted murder after a 30-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times outside CNBC’s headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The incident, which occurred Friday, was described by authorities as an unprovoked attack.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Patel faces charges including first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree weapon possession, and fourth-degree unlawful weapon possession. Investigators reported that Patel approached the woman as she sat in her vehicle, which was exiting a parking lot on Sylvan Avenue near CNBC’s building, and stabbed her through the open car window before fleeing.
The woman, who confirmed to Patel that she was leaving CNBC, was attacked immediately after the exchange. Officials believe the attack was random, as there is no indication that Patel and the victim knew each other.
Following a police investigation, Patel was taken into custody on Saturday. The arrest brings some closure to a disturbing case that has garnered attention due to the apparent lack of motive behind the violent act.
The victim’s current condition has not been disclosed, and Patel remains in police custody as the investigation continues. CNBC, owned by NBCUniversal, has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
