NYU Freshman Sues Roommate for Allegedly Stealing Over $50,000 Worth of Luxury Handbags and Jewelry

Aurora Agapov accuses her roommate Kaitlyn Fung of stealing and reselling expensive items online.

Aurora Agapov, a 19-year-old freshman at New York University, has filed a lawsuit against her roommate, Kaitlyn Fung, claiming that Fung stole over $50,000 worth of luxury handbags and jewelry. According to Agapov’s suit, the stolen items were resold on an online luxury marketplace.

The lawsuit alleges that Agapov discovered the theft in May when she noticed several high-value items were missing from their shared dorm room in Founders’ Hall. She found a receipt from The RealReal, a luxury consignment platform, in Fung’s possession, which led her to further investigate the sale of her belongings.

Among the items reported missing were an 18-karat gold ring valued at nearly $24,000, a $3,300 Celine tote, and a $4,000 Chanel handbag. The suit claims that Fung had opened Agapov’s account on The RealReal and listed several of these items for sale, some of which were sold for far less than their market value. For example, a Bvlgari necklace worth $13,000 was sold for $2,485, and a Chanel bracelet valued at $2,000 was sold for just $175.

The lawsuit also details other stolen items, including a Gucci handbag, Christian Louboutin shoes, and additional Celine bags, some of which were sold but later returned to Fung. The suit further claims that Fung’s mother had allegedly instructed The RealReal to send the unsold items to their home.

Fung, a resident of Old Tappan, New Jersey, was arrested on May 2 after Agapov reported the theft to the authorities. Fung has been charged with grand larceny.
