Kia, Hyundai recall 3.37 million vehicles in the U.S. over fire risks

The recall is due to potential engine fires caused by internal brake fluid leaks, urging owners to park their vehicles outside

Kia and Hyundai have issued a massive recall of 3.37 million vehicles across the United States due to concerns over potential engine fires caused by internal brake fluid leaks. The recall comes after investigations revealed that these leaks could trigger electrical shorts, leading to fires. Both companies have advised vehicle owners to park their cars outside and away from buildings until the necessary repairs are completed.

Hyundai reported a total of 21 fires and 21 other thermal incidents associated with the defect since 2017, while Kia has documented at least 10 fires and instances of melting components. Despite these incidents, neither automaker has reported any crashes, injuries, or fatalities connected to the recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is also involved in the recall, emphasizing the importance of following the automakers’ advice to park outside until further notice.

The recall affects a broad range of models from both companies, with Hyundai and Kia working to notify vehicle owners and provide them with the necessary steps to ensure safety. Affected vehicle owners will be instructed to take their cars to dealerships where repairs will be performed free of charge.

The automakers have expressed their commitment to ensuring the safety of their customers, and both companies are working to address the issue as quickly as possible. While the issue has caused concern among many drivers, it’s important to note that no fatalities or injuries have been directly linked to the fires so far.

Both Hyundai and Kia have already begun contacting customers and will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that repairs are completed efficiently. They are also providing temporary solutions, including offering advice on how to reduce risks while waiting for repairs.

This recall is one of the largest in recent years, highlighting the ongoing challenges automakers face in ensuring the safety of their vehicles. In addition to the potential safety risks, the recall could lead to significant costs for both Hyundai and Kia as they work to fix the issue.

Customers affected by the recall are urged to act promptly by contacting their local dealerships and following safety instructions provided by the manufacturers. Both Hyundai and Kia have expressed their apologies to vehicle owners for the inconvenience caused by this recall and have reassured them that they are taking all necessary measures to resolve the problem.
