Fulton County DA Fani Willis rebukes Rep. Jim Jordan’s inquiry into Trump case

Willis accuses Jordan of overstepping his authority in the Trump election interference investigation.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has strongly criticized House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan over his inquiry into her investigation of former President Donald Trump’s alleged election interference. In a response letter to Jordan, Willis, a Democrat, contended that the Ohio Republican lacks constitutional grounds to intervene in a state criminal matter, asserting that his inquiry oversteps congressional authority.

Willis stated that Jordan’s investigation appears intended to obstruct the legal proceedings in Georgia and advance partisan narratives. She underscored that there is no constitutional justification for Congress to interfere with state-led criminal cases, adding that Jordan’s actions are outside his legislative responsibilities.

Jordan launched the congressional probe shortly before Trump surrendered at the Fulton County Jail on charges including racketeering and conspiracy. Willis argued that Jordan’s efforts to scrutinize her office’s work lack a legitimate legislative purpose and serve instead to interfere with the ongoing legal process.

Willis accused Jordan of a fundamental misunderstanding of legal ethics and the boundaries between legislative and prosecutorial roles. She emphasized that Jordan’s role does not involve influencing or supervising state criminal trials for political reasons.

The DA’s sharp rebuke marks the latest tension surrounding the high-profile investigation, highlighting a clash between federal oversight and state judicial independence.
