Oregon Lawmaker Calls for Investigation Into Ballot-Printing Debacle Amid Election Delays

Clackamas County Faces Weeks-Long Delay in Primary Results, With U.S. House Race in Limbo

Oregon state Rep. Janelle Bynum is demanding a formal investigation into a ballot-printing error that will delay the results of Tuesday’s primary by weeks in Clackamas County, the state’s third-largest. The delay is particularly significant as it impacts a key U.S. House race. Bynum’s call comes as pressure mounts on the county’s Elections Clerk, Sherry Hall, who has overseen the county’s elections for nearly two decades. Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan has requested a written plan from Hall to ensure the results are counted by June 13, the state’s deadline for certifying election results. Bynum described the situation as “unreasonable and untenable,” criticizing Hall, who is also facing reelection in November.
