New Insights Unveiled on Prehistoric Crocodile in Australia

Advanced Scans Reveal Unique Traits of 13.5-Million-Year-Old Trilophosuchus rackhami

Scientists have discovered new details about Trilophosuchus rackhami, a prehistoric crocodile species that roamed what is now Australia around 13.5 million years ago. Using advanced CT-scanning, researchers revealed that this ancient croc reached about 90 cm (35 inches) in length and weighed up to 2 kg (4.5 lb). Known as Rackham’s three-crested crocodile, the species was named in 1993 to honor Alan Rackham, manager of Australia’s Riversleigh Fossil Discovery Center. The findings, published in The Anatomical Record, contribute valuable knowledge to our understanding of crocodile evolution.
