Ford plans to build an electric truck factory in rural Tennessee, promising thousands of jobs but raising concerns about potential community impact.
Ford Motor Co. has committed to being a responsible neighbor as it moves forward with its ambitious $5.6 billion project to establish an electric truck factory in rural west Tennessee. The new facility, located at the Memphis Regional Megasite in Haywood County, will be pivotal in the production of electric F-Series pickups and is expected to create 5,600 direct jobs, with thousands more expected to be added as the plant brings suppliers and supporting industries to the region.
The project, dubbed BlueOval City, is a partnership with SK Innovation to build battery factories, further expanding its reach in the electric vehicle market. This significant investment is anticipated to boost local economies, attracting new businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and health care services. Property values are also expected to rise. However, some local residents have expressed concerns about the potential downsides of such rapid growth, including higher traffic, noise, and crime. Ford officials have promised to address these concerns and ensure that the community benefits from the transformation.
