Gunman shot by police after firing outside Memphis school

An armed person tried to enter Margolin Hebrew Academy, and when he couldn’t get in, fired outside the school. There were no other injuries.

A gunman was shot and wounded by Memphis police after attempting to enter the Margolin Hebrew Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. The incident occurred at around 12:20 p.m. on a Monday, when officers responded to reports of an armed individual at the school.

According to Memphis Assistant Chief of Police Don Crowe, the armed person had tried to gain access to the school but was unsuccessful. Frustrated, the gunman then fired shots outside the premises. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, either to students or staff, as the shooting took place outside the building.

Upon arriving at the scene, police quickly engaged with the suspect, and the situation led to the officer-involved shooting, with the gunman being wounded. The exact details surrounding the confrontation and the gunman’s condition were not immediately available, but authorities emphasized that there was no immediate threat to the safety of those inside the school.

The Margolin Hebrew Academy, a Jewish day school, was secured after the incident, and the police department launched an investigation into the events leading up to the shooting. Although the gunman was not able to enter the school or cause harm to anyone, the situation heightened concerns around security at educational institutions.

The shooting sparked renewed discussions on school safety and the potential for violence, particularly in areas with religious institutions. Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting any suspicious activity around schools.

As the investigation continues, police are working to determine the motive behind the attack and why the gunman targeted the school.
