New Theory on Earth’s Formation Could Explain Planet’s Unique Composition

Scientists propose that Earth formed differently than previously thought, shedding light on other planets

Researchers have developed a fresh theory on how Earth took shape, potentially solving the mystery of our planet’s origins and unusual chemical makeup. This new model could not only reveal more about Earth but also provide insights into the formation of planets with similar characteristics.

According to Professor Paolo Sossi of ETH Zurich, the leading theory in astrophysics and cosmochemistry has long suggested that Earth emerged from chondritic asteroids—small, primitive rock and metal formations from the solar system’s early days. However, this new perspective challenges that view, hinting at alternative materials or processes that may have contributed to Earth’s unique chemistry.

The implications of this research could enhance our understanding of planetary formation, offering clues about the origin of planets beyond our own.
