Prince William Condemns BBC for Role in His Mother’s Struggles Following Bashir’s Interview

Inquiry Reveals Deceitful Tactics in 1995 Panorama Interview with Princess Diana, Deepening Royal Family’s Pain

The Duke of Cambridge has publicly condemned Martin Bashir’s 1995 Panorama interview with his mother, Princess Diana, claiming it exacerbated her “fear, paranoia, and isolation,” ultimately harming his parents’ relationship. Following an inquiry that revealed the BBC’s complicity in Bashir’s “deceitful behaviour” to secure the interview, Prince William expressed profound disappointment in the corporation’s actions.

In his statement, the duke conveyed his “indescribable sadness” regarding the BBC’s failings, which he believes significantly impacted his mother’s mental well-being during her later years. The inquiry led by Lord Dyson found that Bashir had seriously breached BBC guidelines by fabricating bank statements to manipulate Earl Spencer, Diana’s brother, into facilitating access to the princess.

Expressing gratitude to Lord Dyson and his team for their thorough investigation, Prince William’s statement underscores the lasting ramifications of the interview on his family, highlighting the need for accountability in journalism.
