South Africa Hosts First Post-Pandemic Pride March Despite Terror Threat Warning

Over 3,000 Attend Johannesburg Parade Amid U.S. Alert of Possible Attack

More than 3,000 people gathered in Johannesburg on Saturday for South Africa’s first Pride march since the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrating the LGBT community and showing resilience despite a U.S. warning of a possible terror attack in the area. The march, held in the Sandton district, was part of a larger celebration of diversity and inclusivity.

Earlier this week, the U.S. government issued a warning about a potential terror threat in the region. However, South African authorities expressed frustration over the lack of specific details provided by the U.S. to substantiate the threat. Local police assured the public that all safety precautions had been taken to ensure the event’s security, allowing the march to proceed without incident.
