Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, and others wrote letters to the judge in support of Masterson.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, along with other co-stars from That ’70s Show, expressed support for Danny Masterson ahead of his sentencing for the sexual assault of two women. The letters, written to the judge before Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison, described their belief in his character and their opinion that he was not a danger to society. Kutcher, in particular, stated that he did not believe Masterson posed an ongoing harm to others.
Kunis, who portrayed Masterson’s love interest on the show, also wrote a letter, as did several other cast members, including Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith. The letters came in the wake of Masterson’s conviction for raping two women at his home in Hollywood Hills over 20 years ago. The women, who were both members of the Church of Scientology, came forward years later with their accounts of the attacks.
In addition to Kunis and Kutcher, Masterson’s brother-in-law, actor William Baldwin, as well as actors Giovanni and Marissa Ribisi, also members of Scientology, penned letters of support. These co-stars emphasized Masterson’s good character and expressed their belief in his redemption.
However, the letters from his co-stars have drawn criticism, with some arguing that they are an attempt to minimize the severity of the crime. Masterson’s legal team had argued that the case was an example of false accusations, but the court found him guilty, and his sentence has been widely discussed in the media.
