Trump’s VP Announcement Could Come as Early as This Week

Trump’s campaign may reveal his vice presidential running mate ahead of his debate with Biden.

Former President Donald Trump may announce his vice presidential running mate as early as this week, according to sources familiar with his campaign. The announcement could potentially come before his first debate against President Joe Biden, scheduled for Thursday.

Although Trump had previously stated that he planned to make the announcement closer to the Republican convention next month, discussions within his campaign have indicated a possible shift in that timeline. The move is being considered to create a significant splash ahead of the debate, though some sources cautioned that the timing could still change, possibly taking place closer to the convention.

Trump’s senior adviser, Chris LaCivita, later confirmed the uncertainty of the timeline on social media, stating that the announcement could happen as early as Thursday or as late as mid-July. Trump is set to appear in Atlanta for the debate, with a rally scheduled in Virginia on Friday.

The Republican National Convention is rapidly approaching, set to begin on July 15 in Milwaukee, leaving Trump with limited time to introduce his running mate. In the lead-up to the convention, Trump will also face sentencing for his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments involving adult film star Stormy Daniels.

NBC News reported that some of the top contenders for Trump’s vice-presidential pick include North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. Trump himself has hinted that he already knows who his choice will be, and that his running mate will be present for the debate in Atlanta.
