UK Department Acknowledges December “Gathering” During COVID-19 Restrictions

Education Officials Admitted Holding an Office Event Despite Social Mixing Ban

The UK Department for Education has admitted to holding a Christmas “gathering” last December while London was under Tier 2 coronavirus restrictions, which prohibited household mixing and capped indoor gatherings at six people.

The event reportedly took place in the department’s office building. The admission followed a report from The Mirror, which alleged that then-Education Secretary Gavin Williamson hosted the gathering and gave a brief speech on December 10, 2020.
